The Jesuit Missionary to India

December 02 is the feast of St Francis Xavier

St Francis Xavier formed the Jesuits. He was asked by the king of Portugal to restore Christian values in India. Francis was the Papal Nuncio to India and quickly learned that the Portuguese leadership in India was corrupt. He ministered to the sick and the children. After meeting a Japanese fisherman, Francis set off to Japan where he began the conversion of Japanese with quite some difficulty. On his way back to India, he was robbed and became sick with fever. He died in China of the fever on December 2, 1552. Francis is the patron of Catholic missions. Jesus, give us the zeal like St. Francis to evangelize and be missionaries wherever we may be.
